Carpal Tunnel Surgery
The carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway on the inside of the wrist. It protects a main nerve that runs to the hand and tendons that help the fingers bend. When this nerve gets compressed – due to swollen tendons, for example – there is numbness, pain and weakness in the hand. Surgery to relieve this pressure involves cutting the ligament that runs across the nerve. Note: Estimates below are based on Medica Choice network contract rates and include the total cost of care for an episode of carpal tunnel pain that leads to surgery (for example, physician visits, medication, physician and facility fees for the surgery itself, and follow-up care). Estimates are shown for practices with orthopedists that perform carpal tunnel surgery.
